I think someone may have a concussion

If you receive an injury to your head or impact to your body, you may have sustained a concussion. With rest and gradual return to school and sports, these usually resolve quickly.

You should report any concussion to your school as soon as possible. If you have a concussion officer, report it to them. After an incident, it is important to visit a doctor, who will assess whether you have concussion.

What to watch out for:

If any of the following symptoms occur, inform your parents/caregivers and contact your doctor for advice. If symptoms worsen, it is important to get immediate medical care – this could indicate a more serious injury:

  • Headache

  • Pressure in head

  • Balance problems

  • Blurred/double vision

  • Neck pain

  • Nausea/vomiting

  • Dizziness

  • Sensitivity to light and/or noise

  • ‘Don’t feel right’

  • Fatigue

  • Drowsiness

It is important not to ignore these symptoms, as this will prolong recovery.
